Camping At Clover Spring

Conner and I went camping with the scouts this past weekend. We went to the Clover Spring campground a few miles Southwest of Tooele, Utah. The weather was really nice. In fact, it was warmer than the Fathers & Sons campout we went on over a month ago. This was Conner's first overnighter with the 12-13 year old scouts.

The scouts cooked their own meals. Although, the meals weren't really necessary to curb hunger pangs. They all brought enough between-meal treats to make several small elephants sick. We had a great time. The next camp-out is in about 3 weeks. We'll be going to The Little Sahara Desert.

The scouts went on a hike to find a cache that had been hidden in the mountains a few miles away. Here they are learning how to use the GPS devices.
This photo was taken about a mile or so into the hike.
We caught a lizard.

And after a lot of coaxing, I finally convinced Conner and Nate to let the lizard perch on their noses. All for the sake of a photo—and bragging rights.
This photo was taken just after they had found the cache of candy bars. They all look pretty tired. We still had a 2 and a half mile hike back to camp from this point.
After the hike we had lunch and cooled off in the stream.
We found THIS next to our camp. Apparently there are quite a few of these tarantula-looking spiders in the deserts around the Clover Spring area. It was the largest spider I've ever seen in Utah.

It looks like a fun camp, but if I had seen that spider I would've run the WHOLE WAY HOME!!! I don't do spiders! Can't stand them!

Did you know I'm so scared of spiders I can't even touch that picture of it.
That's enough to make sure Dru's the one who goes on all the camps!!
I'm glad Conner had a great time. Looks like he was with great people so it was pretty easy.

It was fun to see the camping pix and all of Conner's friends. Looks like ya'll had fun and got good and tired. That spider looks like he's been stepped on. Was he dead or alive in this pix???? You should have put him in a container and brought him home. A spider like that would be an exciting class pet for 1st graders....as long as he's in a glass terrarium of some sort. By the way, what DID you do with him?????

Love, MOM/GRANDMA

Yes, the spider was dead when we found it. He's actually upside down in the photo. We turned him over and he's dark-brown on his back with orange coloring. We left him there by the side of the road.
