Roller Coasters And Birthdays

Life is often referred to as a roller coaster. For this reason, I've created the graph above. Here, you can easily identify where you sit on the bell-curve of life.

We celebrated dad's birthday on Saturday. As you can see, dad is currently residing slightly to the right of 50. It doesn't look too bad. He's over the big climb and is now enjoying the exciting plunge—arms lifted high in the air—screams trying to escape his open mouth. Tighten your seat-belt, dad. You're entering the most exciting time of life!

Dad has always been young at heart. And in recent years he decided that it would be fun to become a pilot. So he started training, purchased a single engine aircraft and earned his wings. He's now in the process of building a hangar to protect his plane from the elements at the airport near Salina.

So, his birthday party had an underlying aviation theme. Erica made him a cake that looked like his airplane. And, he received some cast-iron airplane decorations and a CD player for his new hangar, among other gifts.

It was a lot of fun getting together with the whole family for a few hours on Saturday afternoon.

We love you, dad. Happy Birthday. And, enjoy the ride.
Here's the man of the hour.
Chowing down.
The cake before the finishing touches.
And here it is after the fruit roll-up pin striping.
Makenah.
Max.

that diagram is about the best thing. mostly because it reminds me of this 'card' rob had made for julene (whom we live with) for her 42nd birthday, when he was like 7, and it looks just like that; only he has drawn Heavenly Father and Jesus at the end with the caption: "if lucky". also, er's cake is amazing. fondant here we come.
