A few weeks ago, Abbie entered a Christmas coloring contest. She spent a significant amount of time making sure her entry was just perfect. She took extra care to color within the lines. And she even endured the apprehension of having to hand deliver her entry to the business conducting the contest all by herself. Why did she do this? Well, because there was money at stake, that's why. The winner of the contest would receive $50 in cash. Fifty big ones! Ulysses S. Grant himself. And then she waited.
Her waiting was not in vain. A couple of days ago, she received a phone call informing her that her submission was among the winning entries. Needless to say, Abbie was ecstatic. And I was really happy for her. It's always fun to be rewarded for a job well done.
When she went in to pick up her winnings, everyone there made her feel extra special. The cashier exclaimed that she secretly considered Abbie's to be the very best. An elderly couple standing arm-in-arm and waiting in the checkout line declared that they thought her entry was the best thing to happen to this town since sliced bread. Since sliced bread? What an interesting saying. I guess at one time back in the Dark Ages, sliced bread must have been quite spectacular—much more jaw-dropping than it seems to us hackneyed knife-wielding bread cutters of the 21st century. And speaking of sliced bread, the Lemays recently gave us some sliced bread that is probably the best thing to happen to sliced bread since...sliced bread. But, I digress.
We're proud of Abbie. And yes, we're bias, too. Congratulations, Abbie.
And now that I know that Abbie is Ms. Moneybags, I'm expecting a pretty sweet Christmas gift this year.
