Adam has been playing baseball for the past couple of years and I have been fortunate enough to be his coach. I've really enjoyed coaching Adam's team. It has been a lot of work but it's also been very rewarding. But the biggest reward came last week on Father's Day. We had just played our last game a few days earlier and each boy on the team was given a trophy to acknowledge a great season of baseball. This trophy quickly became one of Adam's prized possessions. But, back to Father's Day. After the kids had given me their Father's Day gifts, Adam ran into his bedroom and came out with his hands hiding something behind his back. I could tell that he was excited about whatever it was and I immediately thought that it must be something he had made in Primary earlier that day. He walked over to me with a smile on his face, pulled his hands out from behind his back and showed me his coveted baseball trophy. I didn't know how to react at first, and I was wondering what Adam was up to, but then he said, "Dad, I want to give you my baseball trophy because I wouldn't be a very good baseball player without you." "I'm so glad you were my coach because you've taught me everything I know about baseball and I want you to have my trophy."
Well, as you can imagine, I was pretty touched to receive a Father's Day gift like that. Kids can surprise you sometimes and this was definitely one of those times for me. I gave him a big hug and told him that I'd like to keep the trophy in his room on the dresser where I could see it when I came in to tuck him in at night. He thought that was a pretty good idea, too.
