Maple Dell Scout Camp

Conner and his Scout troop went to Camp Maple Dell this week and I tagged along for the first three days. The Scouts were there to pass off merit badges and have a fun time in the process.

The camp has a trading post where, for a small fortune, boys can purchase necessities—like candy...and knives. A lake borders the trading post complete with rowboats and canoes. An unsuspecting Scout may feel that he's been plucked from terra firma and transplanted right in the middle of heaven as he wanders around the lake and finds a rifle and archery range on-site, as well. What more could any fledgling Scout want?

Deer roam freely through the camp as if they own the place—I guess technically, they do. It's a beautiful area and we had a great time. I've posted highlights below.
The lake.
The Scouts at a flag ceremony.
Relaxing at the camp site.
The canoe portion of the "Maple Dell Ironman Competition 2009."
We snapped this shot of Conner standing in front of one of the many deer roaming the area.
The stick-pull game at the "Indian Lore" merit badge site.
Cooking breakfast.
Listening to a councilor at a merit badge class.
Here's Conner working on a project for his "Wood Carving" merit badge. Yes, that's a bandage on his finger from an earlier carving "accident."
Reading in bed.
The boat house at the lake.

Great pictures! It is really pretty up there. I have been thinking about Trevor all week and hoping he's having fun.

Great pics, Ry Guy.

Looks like tons of fun.Conner your really looking good. Is that a first class rank badge on your shirt?

I remember going to Camp Maple Dell. My claim to fame there was being in the lead on a canoe race and at the last minute making a wrong move at the helm and we came in next to last. I hope you catch tons of fish in "Sevier County.
