A New Talent

Conner's been putting his after school free-time to good use lately. What noble activity has dominated his precious post-school afternoon hours? Organizing a food drive, perchance? Volunteering at the local pet shelter? Helping elderly women across the street? Or, perhaps a touch of geometry homework? Alas, non of these honorable activities have overwhelmed his busy eventide schedule. But, some may say that what he HAS been doing could possibly be every bit as virtuous. Yes, he's been practicing for his celebrated future career in the circus. Observe:

In all seriousness, he's pretty good, isn't he? It's impressive, to say the least and fun to watch, too.

Conner's been working on his new talent all week. The other night I came home after dark and saw the barrel in the corner of our backyard. I noticed that something was written on it in blue painter's tape. As I got closer, the message revealed itself: PAIN = GAIN (I think you can see it in the video). It gave me a pretty descent laugh. He's fallen off a few times (that I've seen) and from that height, it probably doesn't tickle.

It's great to see him working at something and getting better. It's indicative of the quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson: "That which we persist in doing becomes easier, not that the task itself has become easier, but that our ability to perform it has improved."
So watch for Conner and his sidekick barrel the next time the circus rolls into town!

I always knew Conner was talented - and now I have proof. And to think he can master such a skill while learning to master his growing body as well. I'm notably impressed!

my eyes don't see too good, is that lance there?

this really is impressive. i'm sure it's even harder than it looks (and it looks hard). this reminds me so much of something lance and i would've spent hours and hours on. luckily, conner has the coordination to accomplish it!
